Surge protection

Power surges can come from lightning or the internal system of your home or business. Protect all your connected kitchen appliances, electronic equipment, computers, solar PV, hot tubs, etc with a whole house surge protection installed adjacent to your electrical service panel. Most manufactures of surge protectors offer a warranty and will replace any surge damaged equipment connected to the electrical system up to a certain dollar value.

Aluminum Wiring

Aluminum was introduced as a cost effective solution in the mid 60’s due to scarcity of copper. Today aluminum is an approved wiring method. However, aluminum is soft, expands more when electricity flows through, and the rust is not a conductive as copper rust. The problem is at the connections, such as receptacles, switches, light fixtures, appliance connections, and at the panel. The solution is special connector that includes a pre-filled compound that prevents oxidation of aluminum conductors or a receptacle or device rated CO/ALR which is rated for both copper and aluminum connections. Well Grounded Electrical Services will your inspect your aluminum wiring system to ensure its safety, use the copper/aluminum approved connectors/receptacles on all device changes and use copper on all new installed circuits for remodels.

Knob and Tube Removal and Rewire

Knob-and-tube is an early standardized method of electrical wiring in buildings from about 1880 to the 1930s. It consists of single-insulated copper conductors run within wall or ceiling cavities, passing through joist and stud drill-holes via protective porcelain insulating tubes, and supported along their length on nailed-down porcelain knob insulators. Where conductors entered a wiring device such as a lamp or switch, or were pulled into a wall, they are usually protected by flexible cloth insulating sleeves called loom. In design the knob and tube is safe. The problem is when the wire cloth insulation becomes brittle and breaks down leaving energized wires exposed to attic insulation or other building materials. Before blowing new insulation in the attic make sure you inspect for knob and tube wiring and its condition. Well Grounded Electrical Services recommends demoing as much exposed knob and tube as possible during a remodel and replacing with todays wiring methods.
